About me
This is Jo, I advocate for the Interior Alaska Agriculture, I support local Farmers and Farmers markets, and I buy local.
The future growth of a sustainable food economy depends on your support. Farmers who toil to produce food, as well as new farmers who bring new techniques to create healthy agriculture in the Interior, depend on your support. Support the local farmers by buying their products. Buy local!
"The future of farmers markets depends on continued support from local communities, a vibrant agriculture sector, and policies that promote local food systems. By embracing these markets, we contribute to a healthier, more resilient food system"... Alaska Farmers Market Association
About Jo
After retiring from a long career in financial services, I wanted to do something that was substantive and meaningful to me. Food has always played a big part in my life, cooking, teaching, and creating new dishes from locally grown food.
In looking at the role food plays in our community, I started conversations with the local farmers, producers and growers. Their reasons for what they do, their dedication to their work was inspiring. I wanted to share the stories of those who are committed to bringing healthy nutritious food to our tables.
Additionally, I was learning about the issue of food security, insufficient food systems and sustainability. It brought to forefront the challenges we face in farming in Interior of Alaska where the season is short and challenges many.
All of these inspired me to write and talk about these issues and tell the wonderful stories of our local farmers via podcast. I hope you join me as we together learn more, become more aware of the need for healthy nutritious food and the need for food by those who have no means of feeding themselves. Under the umbrella of Jo’s Table Alaska, I am focused on increasing awareness and advocating for food security and sustainability in our region of the state. Thank you for being a supporter and follower.
