A seasonal outdoor community market, the Southside Market features Alaska grown and produced food, in the heart of Fairbanks’ South Cushman neighborhood. This neighborhood is the most food insecure in our city. It is also a vibrant and active community with members who participate in and support the Market. There’s often live music at the Market & other nonprofits, like the Fairbanks Children’s Museum, join in the fun by bringing bubbles and games for kids. Along with the neighborhood steering committee, Calypso Farm organizes the Southside Market. This is the Market’s tenth summer of selling vegetables, eggs and other farm-based goods from farmers, bakers and local food makers. The Southside Market is dedicated to making quality, local food accessible to everyone.
Launched in 2015, the Southside Market is a friendly, community-focused farmer’s market offering vegetables, eggs, flowers, baked goods, meat, seafood, preserves, salsa & other farm-based goods from farmers, bakers & local food makers. Its food focused so, arts and crafts are absent from this market. This market focuses on bringing community and vendors together to share their gifts, take home the bounty from the vendors, enjoy a community meal, that is free to all and prepared with locally sourced products. Its healthy, tasty and guess what? they give out recipes so one can easily duplicate the dishes that are showcased by the creative chefs.
If you are looking for great produce and local goods to buy, great company and good food, stop by to visit this very unique, friendly and open to all farmer’s market. The market is described as a two and a half hour group hug! And its true! You see people hugging each other, groups standing around visiting and having a good time, families eating together, kids playing games, its a whole different kind of vibe.
